Ramesses III in the Nemes Headdress

We return to the Karnak Temple today, to bring you another hidden gem tucked away on a colossi of Thuthmose III.

Thutmose III built the seventh pylon for use during his jubilee and it was covered with scenes of his defeated enemies. Walking through the seventh pylon from the Courtyard of the Cachette, we are met with two broken and damaged colossi of Thutmose III. These were carved in red granite from the quarries of Aswan.

Under the left leg of the colossus near the eastern doorpost, we see this wonderful carving of Ramesses III, wearing the nemes headdress, with the crook (heka) and flail (nekhakha) held over his right shoulder.
